I completed several illustrations for the collective pandemic picture book project, written by Freeman Ng. This illustration had a part of it selected for the cover of The Masks We Wore, a poem about how we protected each other throughout the pandemic by wearing our masks in public. Diana Wynne Jones’ fantasy world of Howl is one of my all time favorites! Though I’m more of a fan of Miyazaki’s interpretation of the characters, I was inspired by the description by Jones of the castle being a dark and disturbing presence on the hillsides.
A boy’s imagination takes flight as he tackles the day with his mom and co-pilot dog. All illustrations feature a watercolor underpainting with digital color. Hand-lettered text on the cover completes the design. Story written and published by Mande Buckmaster.

Character Portrait of Daisy and Toby—main characters from my YA paranormal fantasy novel, Under The Mountain. The story won recognition from Hamline University’s MFAC program, giving me the opportunity to work one-on-one with Deborah Kovacs, Editor of Walden Pond Press.
